Project Overview

Client Stockton East Water District
Project Raw Water Delivery Reliability Improvement Project
Location Stockton, California
NEXGEN’s Role Planning, Pre-Design, Design-Build, Construction Management
Quick Fact $6.5 million construction, 60 MGD water treatment plant, 2 year project, maintained full production in WTP during construction
Outcome
  • The WTP now has the ability to treat two different source waters at the same time.
  • Can now take one pre-treatment train out of service and still maintain production
  • Adds an extra 3 days of on-site storage
  • Recharges 1 MGD into groundwater basin

NEXGEN assisted with environmental permitting and completed the design for the Stockton East Water Districts (SEWDs) North Site Groundwater Recharge Pond Project.  SEWD acquired the 230-acre North Site in 2014 to expand its groundwater recharge efforts.

During the design phase, the scope was expanded to develop the recharge basin into a parallel pre-treatment train.  Advantages of this process include (1) the ability to pre-treat two water sources with different chemical additions at the same time and (2) gives a redundant pre-treatment system when one needs to be taken off-line for maintenance.  Other items included improved flow measurement, SCADA controls, and valve automation.  NEXGEN worked with Gateway Pacific Contractors, Inc. to produce the fixed price for the contract, and maintained the pricing for the project when changes were required for site conditions that were discovered during construction.  NEXGEN produced the design-build documents and provided construction management on an as-needed basis.
